The origins of Piaget date back to 1874, when Georges-Édouard Piaget established a workshop on the family farm in La Côte-aux-Fées, in the Swiss Jura. In its early years, the company specialized in manufacturing high-precision watch movements for other brands. In 1911, his son Timothée Piaget took over the workshop and built the first manufactory, thereby transforming the business into a corporation. From that point on, Piaget devoted itself exclusively to the manufacture of wristwatches.

The company registered the name "Piaget" as a trademark in 1943, marking a new chapter in the company’s history. The manufacturer then began creating its own watches for men and women. It gained recognition among watch enthusiasts thanks to its horological innovations, such as its ultra-thin mechanical movement—just 2 mm thick—launched in 1957. The brand then launched the 12P caliber in 1960, which became the world’s thinnest automatic movement. In the 1970s, Piaget adopted quartz technology and introduced its first quartz movement in 1976. The brand continues to innovate, notably with the creation of the Piaget Polo watch in 1979, which became one of the house’s most iconic timepieces.

Over the years, Piaget established its reputation in the watchmaking and fine jewelry markets. The brand was acquired in 1988 by the luxury group Richemont, which took full control in 1993. Since then, the brand has continued to evolve, opening a new manufacturing facility in Plan-les-Ouates in 2001. In the years that followed, Piaget received several awards for its timepiece designs and strengthened its reputation in the field of ultra-thin watches and high jewelry. Notably, the brand won the “Watch of the Year” award for its Emperador model, as well as the “Watch Design Award” in 2002 for the Piaget 1967 watch.
Piaget’s Iconic Watches
Piaget is a Swiss brand renowned for its exceptional watches that combine luxury and innovation. Its creations captivate watch enthusiasts around the world and are often seen on the wrists of celebrities such as actors Hugh Jackman and Jamie Foxx. Some of Piaget’s collections have left their mark on the brand’s history, such as the Piaget Altiplano, launched in 1998. This line stands out for its classic design and ultra-thin profile, embodying the elegance and finesse characteristic of the brand. The Altiplano 900P model, just 3.65 mm thick, is recognized as the world’s thinnest hand-wound watch.

Launched in 1979, the Piaget Polo is another iconic model from the brand. This watch perfectly combines sportiness and elegance with its round case featuring horizontal lines. The Polo has evolved over the years, with modern versions that retain the spirit of the original model while incorporating technical innovations. The Piaget Polo Chronograph was named “Watch of the Year 2007” in the Chronograph category by the jury of the French magazine *La Revue des Montres*.
Introduced in 1957, the Emperador is characterized by its rectangular case with rounded corners and a unique design that hugs the wrist. This model was launched simultaneously with the Caliber 9P, the brand’s first ultra-thin movement, marking a significant breakthrough in the field of watchmaking. The Dancer collection, launched in 1986, is also notable for its refined design and elegant lines. The watches feature rounded shapes and minimalist dials, often adorned with diamonds, reflecting movement and harmony while adding a touch of luxury.
The Possession collection, launched in 2005, stands out for its jewelry-inspired approach and moving elements. These watches are distinguished by their ingenious rotation system, which allows the bezel to spin, creating a captivating visual effect.
