For pleasure:
- When I no longer like the look of my strap
- To change the color or material
Out of necessity:
- When my strap is torn, the loops are damaged or lost, or the lining is cracked or has an odor...
Two essential measurements:
- Widths:
These are measured at the watch lugs (lug width) and at the buckle.
To form a pair of numbers. E.g., 18 / 16 mm
18 corresponds to the watch width at the lugs, and 16 to the width at the buckle.
- Lengths:
These are also measured in two parts.
Length of the pointed end and length of the buckle end. E.g., 115 / 75 mm
115 corresponds to the total length measured from end to end of the pointed end of the watch strap, and 75 to the buckle end (the length of the buckle itself is not included)
Feel free to check out our measurement tutorials.

First option: Simply do it yourself using a Bergeon tool or an everyday object such as a knife (smooth/non-serrated), a flathead screwdriver, or a paperclip for watches with pierced lugs.
Second option: Visit a local watchmaker or jeweler for whom fitting a watch band is a breeze.

A knife (smooth/non-serrated), a flathead screwdriver, or even a paper clip for watches with pierced lugs.
- The clasp: This is the fastening mechanism for your watch band. It can be a simple clasp (pin buckle) or a folding clasp.
- The loops: one fixed and one movable. The tip of the watch strap slides through these loops.
- The strap sections: these are the two parts that make up a watch strap: the tip section and the clasp section.
- The Buckles: These are the fastening mechanisms for your watch band. They can be standard or interchangeable, allowing you to easily change your watch bands by hand, without tools.
Simply a buckle.
There are two types of buckles:
- Simple (pin buckle)
- Deployant (classic or butterfly)
We do not recommend any specific maintenance—no creams, lotions, or leather treatments. Here are a few tips to help your leather strap last as long as possible:
- Avoid contact with water
- Avoid manual labor or sports activities
- Avoid wearing it in summer (high heat, UV rays, perspiration)
- Avoid sleeping with your watch on
No, leather watch straps—whether made of calfskin or exotic leather (alligator, lizard, ostrich, etc.)—are not waterproof.
Furthermore, it is strongly recommended to protect them from splashes of water or any other liquid.
In the summer, excessive sweat and UV rays can also damage your leather watch band.
- Leather: Alligator, Ostrich, Lizard, Calfskin...
- Rubber: Natural or synthetic
- Fabric: Nylon, Canvas, Cordura...
- Metal: Steel, gold, platinum, PVD...
Choose based on your watch and how you intend to use it.
- Fabric straps, such as those made of nylon (like NATO straps), are water-resistant.
- Rubber straps are often the best choice for sports activities or diving; they offer excellent resistance to impacts and to water in all its forms.
Stainless steel buckles and loops are very durable, corrosion-resistant, and provide a simple, long-lasting finish. This is the most versatile option for everyday use and for pairing with your polished steel or white gold watch. However, if your watch case is made of brushed steel, gold-plated steel, yellow gold, or black PVD, I invite you to check out our selection of NATO straps featuring buckles and loops made from these materials right here.
Yes, nylon is a waterproof material that dries quickly. It’s perfect for sports or summer use. Whether in saltwater, a pool, or freshwater, our nylon NATO straps will accompany you on all your adventures.
Yes, once the watch has been stripped down and the lugs have been reattached, the NATO strap simply slides over or under the lugs. No tools are required, and the change takes less than a minute. You can find all our installation tutorials right here.

The PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating provides a durable, long-lasting, and elegant finish, available in black or gold. It is a technical process designed to give the steel a different color.
Yes, the material used for the fabric strap—namely, nylon—remains the same. Only the color of the steel is different, but the product’s durability remains exactly the same.
Absolutely, this can create an interesting contrast and add a touch of originality. The gold can also serve as a subtle reference to the hour markers on your watch, which are sometimes gold even if the case is made of steel.

Unlike traditional single-strap NAOT models, the NATO and Canvas 2-piece straps consist of two strands and are therefore attached like a standard watchband, with one strand on each side of the case.
That’s correct; the two-piece NATO nylon strap uses the same fabric, so its durability and resistance properties are exactly the same.
As for the canvas straps, they are very durable, but we do not recommend wearing them while swimming, as the color may fade with prolonged exposure to water.
Yes, its two-part construction and design prevent any extra thickness beneath the case, making it ideal for slim, dress watches.

The difference, of course, is the material: nylon NATO straps are made of fabric, while leather NATO straps are made of genuine calfskin. The buckles, loops, and lengths, however, are identical for both products.
Yes, leather offers a more refined look than fabric, so our leather NATO straps pair perfectly with dress watches.
The answer is yes—our NATO straps are made of genuine vegetable-tanned calfskin, which develops a stunning patina over time. The straps are also entirely handmade.
