While Switzerland does tend to set the pace for the small world of watchmaking, it is not its absolute epicenter! A few hundred kilometers away, beyond the mountain ranges of the Alps and the Apennines, Giovanni Panerai set out in the mid-19th century to make his mark. He opened his first watch shop in Florence, complete with a small workshop where he passed on his knowledge and craftsmanship. More than 150 years later, Panerai has become a world-renowned brand with a design instantly recognizable from a mile away.

The character and ergonomics of Panerai watches stem from many factors, but one stands out in particular: the brand’s involvement in manufacturing watches for the Italian Royal Navy since the late 1930s. This heritage is particularly evident in the inner dial and the uniquely rounded font of Panerai watches, featuring four large numerals at the four cardinal points. It was at this time that one of the brand’s most famous collections, the Radiomir, emerged, with its unwavering focus on water resistance and depth—amidst intense competition in the dive and pilot’s watch markets.
It is from this pursuit—balancing modern aesthetics with military precision—that Panerai watches draw their personality and uniqueness.
We recently had the opportunity to work on the iconic and legendary Panerai Luminor 1950 watch, fitting it with a honey-colored ethnic watch strap. Superior-quality crafted calfskin, whose flesh-tone shade perfectly complements the copper-colored hands of this exceptional watch. A story of warmth and expertly crafted tone-on-tone harmony, where we drew upon our entire collection and expertise to create a strap worthy of this Panerai watch.
